It’s the only way to get moisture out of the center of heavy cotton or thick blends without burning the top layer. Without it, you get that &amp;ldquo;skin effect&amp;rdquo;—where the outside dries into a shell and traps all the wetness inside. Not a great look.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;A word on the quartz&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;We use high-purity quartz for the tubes because the heat is intense. It lets the filament get screaming hot without the tube melting or turning cloudy.&#xA;But here&amp;rsquo;s the catch: quartz is brittle.&#xA;If your machine vibrates too much or your mounting clips are clamped down too tight, those tubes will snap. Just double-check that your frames are aligned before you start wiring everything up. It&amp;rsquo;ll save you a lot of swearing later.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;Setting up your line&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;The bulb is only half the story. You also have to think about how you actually run your shop.&#xA;Shortwave lamps kick in almost instantly. If your line stops and starts all day, you&amp;rsquo;ll save a ton on power. Mediumwave takes a bit longer to warm up, but if you&amp;rsquo;re running 24/7, it gives you a much steadier, more reliable heat.&#xA;One last thing. High-wattage quartz tubes put out a massive amount of ambient heat. Don&amp;rsquo;t skimp on the cooling fans. If you do, you&amp;rsquo;ll end up frying your control relays, and then you&amp;rsquo;re really in trouble.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
