
Stop Fighting Your Own Oven: Why Speed Saves You Money
Most engineers think the secret to lower energy bills is just adding more insulation. I get it—that’s the old-school way of thinking. But if you’re running a high-throughput bread line, the real money isn’t saved in the walls. It’s saved at the heating element. We use single-tube infrared heaters for a simple reason: they don’t lag. Here is the problem with those standard resistive coils you’ve probably used for years. They hold onto a massive amount of heat. Even after your controller tells them to shut off, they keep dumping heat into the oven for several seconds. It’s like trying to stop a freight train. You can’t just hit the brakes and expect it to stop on a dime. This creates “overshoot.” To keep the temperature from spiking, you end up lowering your set point or cranking up the cooling system. Either way, you’re just throwing electricity away. Our short-wave infrared tubes are different. When the PLC cuts the power, the heat drops almost instantly.It’s fast. Really fast. Because the response is so snappy, you get a tight temperature band. You aren’t wasting energy fighting your own equipment anymore. Now, we build these things out of high-purity quartz. It’s not like stainless steel; it can’t take a beating. If your oven vibrates like crazy or your crew is a bit rough during the cleaning shift, you’re going to see more breakage. It’s a choice.
