We didn’t just grab some generic bulbs off a shelf. We reinforced them specifically to handle the rough-and-tumble environment of Techne blower systems. The heat side of things Here is the trick: getting that PET preform to the exact glass transition temperature before it blows. We use high-wattage shortwave lamps because they hit the plastic fast. Fast heat means faster cycle times. Simple as that. To make sure the lamps don’t warp or give up under that kind of heat, we use high-purity quartz glass. It can take the beating. Built to actually last Most lamps fail at the pinch seal or where the connector hits. We’ve all seen it—that “broken tube” syndrome that happens when a high-speed line is really pushing. We beefed up the ends of the lamps to stop that from happening. We also tightened up the specs on the connectors. They fit snug, which means no more electrical arcing charring your sockets. Plus, we added a specialized coating. Instead of wasting energy heating up the machine frame, the infrared emission is focused right where it belongs: on the plastic. A quick heads-up for the shop floor Swapping these out is easy, but don’t forget about your cooling. Because these lamps are higher output, they push more heat into the oven. If your fans are dying or your vents are clogged with dust, you’re going to overheat the surrounding parts. Do yourself a favor—clean those cooling blowers before you wire in the new set. Sure, these cost a bit more upfront. But you’ll spend way less time swapping tubes and a lot more time actually running your line. That’s a trade I’d make any day.
