
Can you actually get more out of an old SIPA machine just by swapping the lamps?
A lot of people running mid-tier blow molding machines think the only way to bump up their bottles per minute is to drop a huge amount of cash on a brand-new machine. But in my experience? That’s usually not the case. More often than not, the real bottleneck is just the heating oven. When your old lamps start to lose their edge, they don’t heat the PET preforms evenly anymore. To keep the quality up, you end up slowing the whole machine down. It’s frustrating. The fix is simpler than you’d think: swap those old bulbs for high-density infrared replacements. It’s like giving your machine its speed back. Let’s talk about the heat. To push more preforms through that oven without needing a bigger footprint, you need more power in a smaller space. We build our lamps with specific voltage and wattage ratios designed exactly for PET. Basically, a higher wattage lamp dumps more energy into the plastic in a shorter window of time. You hit that glass transition temperature faster. Period. The gear inside We use heavy-wall quartz glass. Why? Because cheap glass bows when it gets hot. We also use a halogen cycle to stop the tungsten filament from evaporating and sticking to the glass. You know those dark spots and “cold zones” that ruin your heating profile? That’s what we’re stopping. Plus, most of our SIPA replacements use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re literally plug-and-play. You don’t have to rip open your control cabinet or rewire anything. Just pop them in, tweak your PID settings, and you’re good to go. One thing to watch out for… Here’s the catch: more heat means more stress on the system. If you jump from a low-wattage lamp to a high-output version, your ventilation has to be able to keep up. If your blowers are clogged or just too small, you’ll bake the oven walls and risk scorching your preforms. Do yourself a favor and check your airflow before you bump up the wattage. Once your cooling is dialed in, you can tighten those cycle times and actually see your daily yield climb.
